2009.12.27 Castle Drogo to Chagford

on the Saturday after Christmas a few of walked from Castle Drogo to Chagford and back. A nice easy walk - about 7 mile round trip - to walk off Christmas. Hmmm - but we ate at the pub.

2009.11.14 Marga and David

Still can't believe it - "Davo" finally married.

Marga and David, who was best man for me at my wedding in 1971, were married in Croydon. It was a great day. Linda and I would not have missed it. Wishing them everything they dream for in the future.

It was also the first time I had met David's sister and mother for a very long time.

As usual - more, and better, photos on the link (some courtesy of "Tina" - thx). Including - for those very rare people who remember us from the 60's - a picture of "Davo" and Bob sharing a stage for the first time in 40 years. Hopefully not the last time.

Challacombe from Warren Inn

A good day for a short 4-5 mile walk from the Warren Inn on the moor. Down the hill from the Inn, over the Two Moors Way and round headland warren (and the stone pens) - views over Grimspound - to Headland Warren farm. South down to Challacombe and the medieval village. Join the two moors way round the edge of Challacombe down and back up to the Golden Dagger tin mine (see piccy). Turn off the two moors way back to the Warren Inn.

Short but sweet.

October in the Lakes

We decided to have a few days in the Lake District in October. Good weather apart from one day - has to be a first in the Lake District - see the photos on flickr.

Enjoyed ourselves so much we're going back again in Spring.

(Sox gives it 5 stars)

Hunter Tor and Lustleigh

This is a first draft of a Dartmoor walk I've liked for a few years now. Starting at the car park near Drakeford bridge following the Dartmoor way up through Houndtor wood, part Beckams, Horsham and Water, across Fofworthy Bridge up to Hunter Tor where you get a great view. Above Lustleigh Cleave to Sharpitor and down to Hammerslake, crossing the road down through the path that comes out near the Lustleigh Post Office. After a "reviver" at The Cleave I used to get back to Drakeford Bridge through Higher Knowle Wood, but last time I tried this the path appeared to have been closed so I had to walk the last part along the road. But it's still a great walk about 10-11 miles long.

I'll update the map showing the actual route.

(Sox gives it 4 stars - would be 5 but he once met a lot of cyclists here)

Monday 1st June 2009 - last day of hols

Saturday 30th May 2009 - Deep Cove and Cypress Mountain

Met up with Gareth and Mary for a trip round to Deep Cove (and to the donut shop!)

Gareth drove us up to Cypress Mountain to see the view over the city to Mount Baker in Washington State - how come Mount Baker sticks out of Linda's head :o)
Then over past UBC to see some of the properties G's been working on and also to see the view from Spanish Banks.

Friday 29th May 2009 - in Vancouver

Dropped off stuff for G, cases at Simone's B&B and the RV at WCMC. Bussed back into town and on into Stanley Park. Walked across the Park to Third Beach and then slowly back to English Bay and over on the False Creek Ferry to the Maritime Museum. (see piccy) Met up with G for Dinner. Nice easy day in Vancouver.

Thursday 28th May 2009 - Whistler to Vancouver

Slow morning round Whistler Village then down the Sea2Sky highway - wow that's changed a lot! Stay by the north end of the Lion's Gate bridge.

Wednesday 27th May 2009 - Lilloett to Whistler

Spend the morning in Lilloett and down the valley towards Lytton, then on the road to Pemberton then Whistler. Lake Duffy was a high point - had a long chat with a lady from Kits about James Lovelock - "well he lives near you". But then we get half an hour with a brown bear - bit special.

Friday 22nd May 2009 - Okanagan

Quiet day

Tuesday 26th May 2009 - to Lilloett (on Fraser)

Wow - which picture to choose. Stop in Kamloops and have a coffee, up past the Kamloops lake to Cache Creek and over the top to Lilloett. Road only just passable in places - Ron at the Lilloett site thought it was still closed. Climate very "desert like" - almost 10C above temperatures in Vancouver. Very tempted to stay longer.

Monday 25th May 2009 - over to Salmon Arm

Cover some miles today back down Highway 1, past Sicamous, to the spawning grounds of the sockeye salmon. Staying at the RV park just outside town that Andy runs. He likes the climate - similar to Zurich from where he came many years back.
I swear it's getting hotter!

Sunday 24th May 2009 - on to Lake Louise

What can you say - still frozen, but at least there weren't many people there. Not nearly as cold as the picture would suggest.

Sunday, May 24, 2009

Saturday 23 May 2009 - East of Revelstoke

Stopped at Enderby, one of the Lakes and Revelstoke on our way from Peachland towards the Mountains. Lovely hot day

Thursday 21st May 2009 - Chilliwack thru Merritt to Okanagan

It's all in the name - a cold start in Chilliwack - good thing we've got the furnace to keep warm!! Fill up - gas and propane - then on the road. Stop at Merritt - "canada's capital of country" - all the action takes place during the July Mountainfest - go for a nice wlak up the river but no bands playing this week so we'll move on to the Okanagan. (maybe I should come back for mountainfest)
